English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) (K–6)

At our school, we proudly support a diverse and multicultural community, recognising that students learning English as an additional language or dialect bring rich cultural knowledge and unique perspectives to our classrooms. We are committed to ensuring that all EAL/D students are supported to fully engage with the curriculum and participate confidently in all aspects of school life.

In line with the new NSW K–6 English syllabus and supporting EAL/D learning progressions, our school employs a dedicated EAL/D teacher who works closely with students, classroom teachers, and families to identify language learning needs and provide targeted support from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Our EAL/D program includes:

  • Individualised and small group support focused on building English language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • In-class collaboration with teachers to support language development across all learning areas
  • Monitoring and assessment of English language proficiency using the EAL/D Learning Progression
  • Culturally responsive teaching that respects and values students’ home languages and backgrounds
  • Ongoing communication with families, including translated materials and interpreter support when needed

Through this inclusive and personalised approach, our EAL/D students develop the language skills and confidence needed to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We value the unique contributions of every learner and are committed to ensuring equitable access to learning for all.
