History and Geography (HSIE) (K-6)

At our school, the teaching of Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) plays a vital role in helping students understand the world they live in — past, present, and future. Through the study of History and Geography, students develop a sense of identity, cultural understanding, and a deep appreciation for the people, places, and systems that shape our society.

We are currently implementing the new NSW K–6 History and Geography syllabuses, which place a strong emphasis on inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and real-world connections. These updated syllabuses ensure content is relevant, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for students at each stage of learning.

In History, students explore:

  • Personal and family histories
  • Community and local area heritage
  • First Nations histories and cultures
  • Australian history and significant people, events, and places
  • Continuity and change over time

In Geography, students investigate:

  • Natural and human features of places
  • How environments support human and animal life
  • The interconnections between people and places
  • Sustainability and responsible care for the environment
  • Global connections and Australia's role in the world

Our HSIE programs are designed to promote curiosity, empathy, and active citizenship. Students are encouraged to ask questions, examine evidence, think critically, and consider different perspectives as they explore the past and present and plan for a more informed future.
