Learning Support, High Potential and Gifted Education (K–6)
At our school, we are committed to ensuring that every student is known, valued, and cared for, and that their individual learning needs are identified and supported from Kindergarten through to Year 6. Through our Learning Support and High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) programs, we provide tailored opportunities to enable all students to thrive and reach their personal best.
In alignment with the new NSW K–6 syllabus documents, which emphasise inclusive and differentiated teaching practices, we offer a range of targeted strategies and support structures to meet the diverse needs of our learners.
Learning Support involves:
- Early identification and intervention for students requiring additional support in literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing
- In-class and small group support from specialist teachers and learning support officers
- Collaborative planning with classroom teachers, parents/carers, and external professionals
- Adjustments and accommodations to ensure access to curriculum and participation in all aspects of school life
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) includes:
- Differentiated curriculum and enrichment opportunities within the classroom
- Extension programs that develop critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and leadership
- Opportunities for acceleration, competitions, and extra-curricular engagement in academic and creative domains
- A focus on the four domains of potential: intellectual, creative, social-emotional, and physical
Our inclusive approach ensures that all students—whether they need additional support or greater challenge—are provided with learning experiences that are meaningful, engaging, and suited to their unique strengths, interests, and goals. We are proud to foster a learning environment where every student can grow with confidence.
Additional learning support
At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. You do not need a formal diagnosis for your child to receive support in a mainstream class. Support can begin at any stage of school.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. We work closely with families to make support plans and adjustments that suits each child’s needs.
Additional learning support can include:
- teachers and support staff working together with families (and students, if needed)
- specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- providing tailored programs to help high potential and gifted students with their advanced learning needs
-
small group tutoring to provide targeted literacy and numeracy support for students
-
regular check-ins to review and update the planned supports
-
changes to the classrooms:
- accessible classrooms
- assistive technology
- instructional resources
-
extra guidance, simpler content or different focus during lessons
-
assessment adjustments:
- more time
- simpler language
- breaks during tasks
- different ways to complete a task (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks).
We know when a student needs help when:
- teachers notice changes in learning or behaviour
- reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- parents and carers raise concerns or ask for support.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
