Literacy
At our school, we are committed to developing confident, capable, and creative communicators. The English curriculum in Kindergarten to Year 6 focuses on building essential literacy skills through three key strands: Reading and Viewing, Writing and Representing, and Speaking and Listening.
Students engage with a wide range of quality texts—fiction, non-fiction, poetry, media, and digital content—that reflect diverse voices and perspectives. Through structured and explicit teaching, they learn to decode and comprehend texts, express ideas effectively in writing, and communicate clearly in spoken language.
Our literacy programs support the development of:
- Phonemic awareness and phonics
- Vocabulary and spelling
- Grammar and punctuation
- Reading fluency and comprehension
- Writing for different audiences and purposes
- Speaking and active listening skills
We foster a love of language and literature, while also ensuring students have the critical literacy skills they need to become thoughtful readers and articulate communicators in the 21st century. Literacy learning is differentiated and inclusive, meeting the needs of all learners from Foundation to Year 6.
