Seamless Transitions: Supporting Our Students from Preschool to High School

At BPPS, we are committed to ensuring smooth and supportive transitions for our students—whether they are starting Kindergarten or preparing for high school. Our transition programs are thoughtfully designed to build confidence, foster strong relationships, and create a sense of belonging at every stage.

From Preschool to Kindergarten, we work closely with local preschools to develop positive and collaborative partnerships. Throughout the year, preschool children are invited to attend open mornings at our school, giving them valuable opportunities to explore the learning environment and become familiar with the school community.

Our Kindergarten Orientation Program includes individual interviews with the Principal, where families can share information about their child, and transition meetings with preschool educators to discuss each child’s unique needs. We also enjoy a close relationship with a number of our local pre-schools. These early connections help us provide tailored support and ensure a warm, welcoming start to school life.

For students with individual learning needs, we provide additional layers of support to ensure successful transitions between year levels. We hold twice-yearly Individual Learning Plan (ILP) meetings with parents and carers, where student progress, goals, and upcoming transitions are discussed. Where appropriate, we use strategies such as social stories, additional orientation visits, extended transition periods, and dedicated support personnel to ensure each child feels secure, understood, and ready for the next stage in their learning journey.

From Year 6 to High School, we enjoy a close and ongoing relationship with Mosman High School, our local public coeducational high school. Our students benefit from the “A Taste of High School” program, which includes visits to Mosman High, allowing them to experience high school life firsthand. In addition, our staff liaise regularly with Mosman High teachers to ensure a smooth academic and social transition for our graduating students.
